Tri-Town fall sports teams qualify for state playoffs

Oct 31, 2023

It's time for Tri-Town athletes to show the rest of the state what they’re made of.

Propelled by their regular season performances, many of Old Rochester Regional High School and Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School’s fall sports teams head into the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association’s tournaments, with their eyes on the state championship title.

Brackets continue to be released by MIAA, and this article will be updated online as more information becomes available.

Football

With a 4-4 record so far this season, Old Rochester Regional High School varsity football is advancing to the MIAA playoffs after a 32-20 win against Somerset-Berkley at Old Rochester’s homecoming game

The team’s record earned it a sixth seed ranking in Div. 5. Old Rochester begins its playoff run with a home game against North Middlesex on Friday, Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m.

Old Colony varsity football is moving into the sixth seed ranking in Div. 8. The team’s nearly undefeated 7-1 season also led them to become Mayflower Athletic Conference champions

Old Colony will face Narragansett at home on Friday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.

Volleyball

Old Rochester girls varsity volleyball went 15-4 this season, propelling them to sixth seed in Div. 3. Many games, including a Sept. 13 win against Dighton-Rehoboth, were 3-0 knockouts.

Old Rochester had a bye in its first round and will face either Triton or Burncoat in a to-be-announced second round game.

Old Colony girls varsity volleyball did not fare as well this season. A record of 3 wins to 16 losses means that the team will not be advancing to the postseason.
