Tri-Town sports teams’ dreams of state championship titles have been dashed following a series of losses in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Fall Tournament. 

Football

At Old Rochester Regional High School, the div. 5 varsity football team lost 28-8 against Shawsheen Valley Vocational Technical High School on Friday, Nov. 10, ending the Bulldogs’ championship run in the round of eight. 

Previously, the Bulldogs won 28-14 against North Middlesex in the round of 16 after the school’s homecoming game propelled them into the state tournament. The team is 5-5 this season.

But while the MIAA playoffs are over for Old Rochester, the Bulldogs will face Apponequet Regional High School in a Thanksgiving day game at 10 a.m. in Lakeville. 

Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School’s div. 8 varsity football team lost 24-14 against Hoosac Valley High School on Saturday, Nov. 11 after racking up an impressive series of wins this season. 

The Cougar’s 8-2 season included a 38-0 win against Upper Cape Tech and a 12-0 win against South Shore Technical High School. Even though the Cougars didn’t become state champions, they did earn the championship title in the Mayflower Athletic Conference on Friday, Oct. 27.

While no longer competing in the MIAA tournament, Old Colony will face Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at home at 6 p.m.

Volleyball

The Old Rochester girls div. 3 varsity volleyball team also ended their championship run in the round of eight following a 3-0 loss against Weston on Thursday, Nov. 9. This is the Bulldogs’ second loss against Weston this season. 

Thursday’s loss ended the team’s 10-win streak that began with a 3-0 win against Dighton-Rehoboth in early October. The team is 17-4 this season.

Soccer

Old Rochester’s boys and girls varsity soccer teams both ended their championship runs early in the tournament this year. 

The girls team bowed out in the div. 3 preliminary round with a 7-1 loss against Pembroke on Thursday, Nov. 2.

The boys team made it a bit further before a 3-2 PK loss against Dedham in the div. 3 round of 32 on Sunday, Nov. 5.
