Snow storm hits Tri-Town as schools, buildings close

Feb 14, 2024

It was a mid-week snow day for the Tri-Town on Tuesday, Feb. 13.

In Rochester, 3.5 inches of snow fell and the temperature dropped to as low as 27 degrees Tuesday, according to National Weather Service observer data.

Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School and Old Rochester Regional High School both closed for the day. Rochester Town Hall and town buildings in Mattapoisett were closed. In Marion, the Benjamin D. Cushing Community Center, Marion Music Hall, Marion Town House and non-essential municipal buildings were also closed.

The weather was a “typical storm” in Mattapoisett, according to Mattapoisett Fire Chief Andrew Murray.

Mattapoisett Neck Road was temporarily closed due to a broken telephone pole that resulted in power lines hanging over the roadway, Murray said. The storm took a few power lines and tree limbs down, with a couple trees blocking roadways.

“But other than that, it's been nothing major or significant,” Murray said.

The Marion Fire Department and Rochester Fire Department could not be reached for comment.
