Sippican Choral Society to sing ‘glorious Glorias’

Dec 6, 2023

MARION — The Sippican Choral Society will sing in the holidays with a selection of “glorious Glorias” at its annual holiday concert, said Sippican Choral Society conductor Darry Dolezal.

The concert will be held on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. at Tabor Academy’s Wickenden Chapel.

This year’s concert features John Rutter’s musical setting of the “Gloria” with a full brass orchestra and will include selections like Felix Mendelssohn’s “Behold a Star from Jacob Shining” and Howard Helvey’s “O Lux Beatissima.”

According to Sippican Choral Society President Kelli McSweeny, the concert embodies the “idea of joy to the world and peace on Earth.”

The society itself is a non-audition chorus, said McSweeny.

“This is for people who love to sing,” she said. “It’s truly an amateur chorus. What we want to emphasize is that anyone can come to sing … it requires some concentration and some practice but we’re a non-audition choir and we want to keep that tradition.”

Tickets are $20 for general admission, $10 for students, and free for children 14 and under.

Tickets can be purchased online at sippicanchoralsociety.org., or from Choral Society members, at the Marion General Store, the Symphony Music Shop, and at the door with cash or check.
