NEW BEDFORD — Splashes turned to cheers as Old Rochester Regional High School swimmers completed laps at a swim meet against New Bedford High School on Thursday, Jan. 11.

The Old Rochester boys swim team maintained its 3-0 undefeated streak with a narrow 90-88 win against New Bedford. The girls team fared worse, losing 116-66, putting them at 1-2 for the season.

On the boys team, Tate Peterson finished first in the 200 and 50 freestyle. Sam Raynor took first in the 500 freestyle and the 200 individual medley. An individual medley includes backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and freestyle in four equal laps.

The girls team saw Katie Anderson take first in the 50-meter freestyle and the 100 breaststroke. Elizabeth Chubb took first place in the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly.

Over several hours, students competed in swimming events from backstrokes to dives. But there was no bad blood between the Bulldogs and the Whalers — competing swimmers ended their laps with high-fives, handshakes and hugs.
