Old Rochester loses to Wareham in annual Powderpuff football game

Nov 28, 2023

MATTAPOISETT — Thanksgiving football isn’t just for the boys. On Tuesday, Nov. 21, the Old Rochester Regional High School lady Bulldogs took to the gridiron to face off against Wareham in the annual Powderpuff Football game.

This annual game swaps the sport’s gender roles and puts girls on the field while boys cheer from the sidelines. At past Powderpuff games boys donned tutus over their sweatpants and cheered from the sidelines.

According to coach Michael Beson, the team got in five practices before the game.

“It’s always a fun game,” said Beson. “I don’t think there were any injuries and that’s all we can hope for.”

But while no one suffered any physical injuries, the Bulldogs took a hit to their pride after losing 0-14 against Wareham.

The Bulldogs also lost to Wareham at last year’s Powderpuff game, 6-0.

But despite the outcome, Old Rochester players still had a good time.

“It was fun, cold but fun,” said Old Rochester player Liz Harrington.
