ROCHESTER — In front of a crowd of parents, students, and alumni, Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School’s football team moved to 6-1 this season with a 38-0 win over Upper Cape Tech on Friday, Oct. 20. 

Before the game, the school honored all senior fall athletes and their parents with a ceremony on the field. 

The Cougar offense scored on their first drive in just under two minutes and never looked back, reaching the end zone on each of their first five possessions.

Junior Nathan Marden paced the offense with two touchdowns, while Shawn Markham, Luke Meelia, and Matt Pitts each added a touchdown of their own.

Old Colony Head Coach Brandon Mendez gave praise to his backfield after the victory. “Our backs are all patient, have great vision, and run hard.” Said Mendez. 

Plenty of former Old Colony football players were in attendance for homecoming. Sam Blotner, who graduated in 2019 said “It’s great to see how far this program has come since 2015 when I started playing here.”

“I miss everything so much, all of the practices, games, everything. It is also great to catch up with people I used to see every day for two to four years,” Blotner added. 

Old Colony led 24-0 at halftime. During the intermission, the 2023 Homecoming Court was invited onto the field. At Saturday’s homecoming dance, two members of the court will be named king and queen of homecoming.

Old Colony alum Ryan Farias returned for homecoming for the first time since he graduated from the school in 2019. “It has been on my bucket list to get back, it brings back all sorts of memories from a great four years,” said Farias.

During his time at Old Colony, Farias served as a student assistant on the football team’s coaching staff. “I could not be more proud of Coach Mendez, words really can’t describe it.” Farias said of the impressive start to Old Colony’s season. “I knew that coach was slowly but surely building something special here.”

“We always want to win the homecoming game, not only to leave our current seniors with a positive lasting memory of their last school spirit week, but to put on a good show for alumni and their families.” Said Mendez.
