Old Colony coach named football coach of the year

ROCHESTER — Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School football coach Brandon Mendez has been named Massachusetts football coach of the year by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association.

This season, Mendez led Old Colony to its third consecutive Mayflower Athletic Conference small division title, amassing a record of 9-2.

Mendez also coaches the varsity softball team at Old Colony, coordinates the school’s strength and conditioning problem and is an advisor of the student council.

According to the MIAA “Coach Mendez instills the qualities and skills needed not only to succeed as a football player, but as a community member. Those involved with the program have seen Brandon's values and beliefs of those around him grow the program and achieve high levels of success.”
