Mattapoisett waters reopen to shellfishing after emergency closure

Mar 21, 2024

MATTAPOISETT — Areas of Mattapoisett waters that had been closed to shellfishing in February reopened on Thursday, March 21.

The shellfish growing areas had originally been closed due to combined sewer overflow discharges that impacted parts of Buzzards Bay, according to the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries.

Those waters are now back open to the taking of shellfish, the Division of Marine Fisheries notice said.

In addition to Mattapoisett, the Feb. 28 emergency closure covered Westport, Fairhaven, Falmouth, Gosnold and New Bedford.
