May 6, 2024

MATTAPOISETT — A model of a piece of Mattapoisett history will be unveiled at the Mattapoisett Museum.

The museum will hold a public unveiling Sunday, May 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. of a Wanderer model ship created by master model shipbuilder George Lowery.

The model took over 2,000 hours to complete and is authentic to the smallest detail, according to Mattapoisett Museum press release. It is worth over $90,000.

Lowery will be in attendance and give a brief presentation on the model and how he built it. The model will be the centerpiece of the museum’s summer exhibit.

In celebration of the event, the museum will also host a group of sea shanty chorus singers who will perform songs that were sung in 1924 at the "sea service" on board the Wanderer the day she departed on her last voyage. Refreshments will be served.
