Marion Food Pantry to close April 30

MARION — The Marion Food Pantry will be closing its doors permanently on Tuesday, April 30 after over two years of serving the community.

According to Marion Council on Aging Director Karen Gregory, the pantry had been receiving its food from Damien’s Family Food Pantry.

“We have been partners with Damien’s for quite a while now,” said Gregory. “Since they are so close and are providing pretty much the same food that we are, it just seemed a little bit repetitious and we could make better use of our services and resources if we combine forces.”

Gregory said that the Marion Council on Aging will provide transportation to residents who need assistance traveling to Damien’s Food Pantry.

According to Gregory, many of Marion Food Pantry’s volunteers have already started helping out at Damien’s.

“It’s been great, said Gregory. “We enjoy doing this. We were happy to have the support that we did from the community, from volunteers to donations, but it just seemed the right time.”

Damien’s Food Pantry opened its new location on February 15, and is set up just like a grocery store.

Clients are able to grab a shopping cart on their way and peruse the aisles for items that they want and need.

Damien’s Food Pantry is currently open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Thursday and Saturday and is located at 242 Marion Rd. in Wareham.
