Candidate profile: Pat DeCosta

Jun 7, 2020

Pat DeCosta spent the last 14 years of her career working as Marion’s associate assessor. Now retired, she is running for the Board of Assessors to ensure property is assessed fairly and the town can continue to grow.

DeCosta worked for the town for 27 years. She has been an accredited assessor since 2001.

“I am very familiar with the operation of the town and understand how the departments need to work together to ensure that the town is well-managed,” DeCosta said.

If elected DeCosta said her “top priority would be to make sure that all real estate and personal property is assessed fairly and equitably so that property values and new growth continue to get approved yearly by the Department of Revenue in a timely manner.”

She said she tries to defer to the law, even when it might mean hurt feelings or public disapproval.

DeCosta moved to Marion at age 11 and attended Old Rochester Regional High School. She moved to Mattapoisett and New Bedford for thirteen years, moving back to Marion in 1984.

Her father, brother, daughter and grandchildren all live in town. In her free time she helps out her 90-year-old father and spends time with her children, grandchildren, siblings and friends.
