MARION — Old Rochester Regional High School Sophomore Tucker Roy stopped every puck that was sent his way for the third straight game as the Bulldogs blew by Apponequet 5-0 on Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Travis Roy Arena.

Senior Captain Barrett Becotte scored in the second minute of the game, and capped off Old Rochester’s successful afternoon with another goal in the third period.

“I think this is the best overall team we’ve had since I started coaching here,” said Old Rochester Head Coach Zach Ledogar, who is in his fifth season at the helm of the program. “From top to bottom we have a lot of really good hockey players.”

Old Rochester is currently ranked #12 in Division IV in the state, which Ledogar said is the highest that the Bulldogs have been ranked in his time at Old Rochester.

“We really talked all week about being super disciplined and taking advantage of every puck battle,” said Ledogar. “The kids executed that. They were physical, they won every puck battle and they got pucks to the net.”

Senior Jarrod Frates and Sophomore Chase Almeida followed Becotte’s opening goal with first period goals of their own. Junior Connor Galligan added a goal in the second period to put the Bulldogs up 4-0 before Becotte’s second tally sealed the win in the third.

Roy was challenged in net by a number of Apponequet power play opportunities, but held steady through all three periods to secure his third straight shutout. “He’s the kind of kid who takes every second on the ice very seriously,” said Ledogar. “He’s super focused right now and the team is definitely relying on him.”

Ledogar said that the team’s biggest strengths are its ability to score and the camaraderie between players, who are all very close to one another according to Ledogar.

The win improves the Bulldogs’ record to 8-4-1. Next, Old Rochester will face Seekonk High School on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at a location to be announced.
