Bulldogs fall to Vikings 68-75 in first game of the season

WAREHAM — Old Rochester Regional School and Wareham High School went neck in neck in the first varsity boys basketball game of the season on Tuesday, Dec. 12. Though it was a close one, the Vikings came out victorious, defeating the Bulldogs 68-75.

Head Coach Steve Carvalho said he thought his team made some good moves, but in the end they were facing some “tough time against a very good team.”

He added, “It was a bit of a race at the end.”

The team is back this season after a tough loss in the semi-finals against St. Mary’s High School this past March, which thwarted their path to the Div. 3 state championship.

The team lost quite a few seniors since then, but Carvalho said he has a new team together and all the players have been “stepping up” and “moving forward.”

Reflecting on their loss, Carvalho said, “We've got to clean up a few things and we've got to be careful with some attitudes and some other things, but we played them hard.”

He said he is hopeful the team will “do better next time,” adding he’s looking forward to the new season.

The Bulldogs will be welcoming the Nauset Regional High School Warriors to their home court on Friday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. for a non-conference game.
