Bulldog football has a ‘great team win’ at homecoming game
MATTAPOISETT — The Old Rochester Regional High School varsity football game against Somerset-Berkley “started out ugly,” said coach Bryce Guilbeault.
With an 80-yard touchdown run giving Somerset-Berkley a six point lead within seconds of the game’s start, things weren’t looking good.
But as the game went on “it finally came together,” said Guilbeault, and the Bulldogs won 32-20 against Somerset-Berkley.
“We were clicking on offense, defense,” he said. “Everybody contributed. It was a great team win.”
According to Guilbeault, this win also puts the Bulldogs in line to play for the South Coast Conference League Championship.
“If we wanted a chance at the league championship we had to win tonight and these kids stepped up,” said Guilbeault. “We’re proud of them as a staff and we’re excited to get ready next week for Barnstable.”
Old Rochester will face Barnstable in an away game on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.
And while a win is always welcome, winning the homecoming football game is always a night to remember.
“We had a great crowd tonight … the fans are awesome,” said Guilbeault. “There were a ton of former players here … I said ‘guys, show them the type of team we are because we haven't shown it yet this year,’ and they stepped up and had a great game.”
