Mar 8, 2024

The Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries reopened Aucoot Cove for shellfishing activity on Wednesday, March 6.

The cove had been closed to shellfishing since Dec. 12, 2023 due to a discharge at the Marion Wastewater Treatment Facility.

The water in the cove now meets National Shellfish Sanitation guidelines, according to the Division of Marine Fisheries.

The Aucoot Cove area is defined as “waters and flats in the towns of Mattapoisett and Marion, north of a line drawn from Joe’s Point in Mattapoisett to Converse Point in Marion.

Shellfish found in the area are safe for human consumption, according to the Division of Marine Fisheries.
